Better than I anticipated

I wasn't sure I wanted to see this show since it appears every year on TV and I figured there wasn't much new to see in this popular favorite. But I was wrong. This play was very well done, with a great selection of Christmas tunes and excellent singers. It will absolutely put you in the Christmas mood even though Thanksgiving is barely over. Here is my one and only complaint. There were times when the "happy" scenes were so incredibly overacted as to be annoying. If it was just toned down a notch it wouldn't make it appear so unnatural and completely unbelieveble. No one ever actually behaves this over-the-top.

A Christmas Carol was wonderful!

This was my first time attending a play at Desoto Civic Center and it will not be the last. A Christmas Carol ,The Musical was absolutely brilliant! Robb Zelonky as Scrooge was superb..His voice was strong and his expressions so real I felt I actually knew him..All of the cast were so polished and the music was perfect. The lighting and sound added so much to the musical. I left feeling happy and very lifted up..Thank you for all the hard work you put into this production.. With all the dancing and singing ,how could one not leave feeling the Christmas spirit.

A Christmas Carol

Although a good performance, The Christmas Carol at Drury Lane Oakbrook is not suited for young children. At the play last Saturday many little ones were crying and had to leave the theater. We had five children with us and the older three were fine but the four and five year olds were very frightened. The effects are intense and this performance is for school age children (the youngest I suggest would be first or second grade). On the Drury Lane web site it mentions children of all ages and a kid friendly performance. That is very wrong. Drury Lane Theater does not offer a place for comments or reviews.

We really enjoyed this production. The only reason I couldn't give it a 5 star was for the stage lighting. We were in the middle of the auditorium and all of us had a hard time seeing what was happening on the stage. It was to dark. The 2nd half I don't know if we just get accustomed to it or they lightened it up some. Also my grown boys had a hard time understanding what was being said, even though I thought it was fine. Next time I will get my tickets earlier and try to get seats toward the front. Great acting and great backgrounds.
